About Stacie

Speech Language Therapist

Hi, I’m Stacie!

I love language, and learning languages! However I had never heard of Speech and Language Therapy until after my efforts and attempts to speak Spanish overseas were met with multiple communication breakdowns and feeling deflated. I was reassured that I was not the only one who had difficulty with sounds and many children went to speech therapy. But what must it be like to struggle to communicate in general? The seed was planted!

Years later, I trained as a Speech and Language Therapist at the University of Auckland, completing my Masters of Speech and Language Therapy Practice in 2014.

I began working for the Ministry of Education in Palmerston North, where I gained experience working with family, whānau, educators and children in early education centres and schools. I have been working in the paediatric setting ever since.

I have worked for the National Health Service (NHS) in London, where I was fortunate to be placed across many boroughs and settings. However my time in a particular specialist school and college sparked my interest in the area of Autism.

I have since practised in the private sector and enjoy working closely with families, directly with our children and young people, as well as giving parents and caregivers the tools to support their young person’s speech, language and communication skills.

From when my journey began, I have gained experience in supporting children and young people with speech and language difficulties, social communication difficulties, speech sound disorders, fluency, Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) systems, developmental delays and diagnoses.  I have been involved in professional development in the areas of: Working with Young Children with Autism Spectrum: Being Evidence Based and Effective, Childhood Apraxia of Speech- Diagnosis and treatment, Registered Behaviour Technician Training , Social Communication Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support (SCERTS) certification  training,  Lidcombe Programme certification, Hanen It Takes Two To Talk and Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) certification.

I enjoy the high energy that working with children brings and my role is to work myself out of a job!
